Operation FAILED
Posted by Bert Delgado on December 14, 2010 at 12:00 amGreetings,
I tried to burn a one hour and fifteen minutes Blu Ray disc using Share, in Final Cut Pro 7
I clicked on the Compressor button on the Share window and selected the H.264 quality for 90 minutes.
Started at around 8:30 in the morning. By 7 PM a message indicating that it failed, appeared.
The Timeline was audio & video rendered prior to starting the Share application.
Any suggestions on settings for over 1-hr long Blu Ray disc, or why it failed?
Thanks for info.
Bert

December 14, 2010 at 12:06 amI don’t know anyone who recommends using Share. Best practice as espoused here often is to first export a self contained quicktime movie and then bring that into Compressor to make H264 files etc.
The process of then authoring and burning a bluray will require additional software as DVD Studio Pro doesn’t author bluray.

Compressor 3 does author very rudimentary Blu-ray, but anything more sophisticated than a basic template-driven main menu does require additional software.

Like Michael suggested, I’d export a self-contained movie and bring that to Compressor.

December 14, 2010 at 6:21 pmHello Walter,
I have one additional (and hopefully final question)
The DVD I would like to burn will not have any menus or anything else except a continuous movie, about 1 hr and 15 minutes long.
Would compressor handle that after I create the H.264 file?
I also have a software which I have never used named “Toaster.” Should I use that one?
Thanks for info.

Do you want to burn a DVD, or a Blu-ray disc?

Read through that link I posted — it describes how to use Job Actions with Compressor to create DVDs or Blu-rays. You can also take a bit of a shortcut by using Compressor > File > New batch from template to set up the compression job and job action in a single step.
I think Compressor does force a menu on you, but you can set the disc to first-play the content instead of the menu. In other words, it will let you set the job to auto-play your movie when you insert the disc in a Blu-ray player, but it will return to a menu when the movie completes.
I think that Toast’s Blu-ray authoring is about as limited as Final Cut Studio’s, but I haven’t used it.
