  • Opening cs4 in cs3

I am trying to open a cs4 project inside cs3 because a few of my plugins don’t work. Unfortunately the files are not backward compatible.
prproj files are xml so I am sure a parser exists out there which makes these files compatible, like a maya 8 scene can be opened in maya 7 (albeit a few functions may be lost but an editing scene file is far simpler than 3d object data)

    Thank you

Indeed, they are not backward compatible (and never have been) which is the case for most Adobe applications, and I don’t believe there is a workaround.

Even if you were able to make changes in the xml file to dupe Premiere into thinking that it is a CS3 file, I would assume you might run into some issues. We actually have run into issues opening CS3 files into CS4..

Export an EDL from CS4 and open that in CS3. That’s about the best you can do.

    Cheers

    Hello Laurent,

You can save as a AAF, then import this into cs3 wqith no probelms. I just did that on a project where it was all edited in Premiere pro cs4 but for stability issues and pl;ugin problems on cs4 decided to go back to cs3. Works fine, I suggest you try that as the EDl created loads of extra clip files and references.
