  • Opening a DVCPRO HD quicktime file in AE7 on a PC

Posted by George Evatt on May 13, 2007 at 2:15 am

    Hi,

We have some Varicam (60p) footage that we are about to dump into FCP. We then want to get the hd quicktime file and manipulate it in AE7 pro on my PC. Even thought there is a preset for DVCPRO HD in AE7 am I right in thinking it will not recognise or open the DVCPRO HD quicktime file?

If this is the case, is there some way to export it from Final Cut Pro to a file format that my PC can deal with while still retaining the HD res and 60p?

In know Serious Magic sell a program that can do this by converting DVCPRO HD to AVI format, but it costs around $200 so we would rather aviod that as this is probably a one-off job.

    Any info greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    George

I was under the impression that After Effects would recognize any codec that QT does, although it might not necessarily work with them very efficiently. Am I wrong?

You are right, provided the codec is supported on the platform.

I don’t believe FCP’s DVCProHD codec is available on Windows.

I thought I saw somewhere that you can purchase the DVCPROHD CODEC for the PC. I can’t remember where I saw this though.
