March 18, 2006 at 3:15 amI tend toward the PNY nVidias for “big iron” GFX cards.
More RAM is always better until I hear otherwise…
The Matrox Parhelia is excellent for video editing, but I thought someone may have posted here that it’s not compatible with the RTX 100…but I could be wrong.

March 18, 2006 at 1:25 pmI’m in the same boat here and have been looking into this a little:
Regarding the Parhelia, it only supports OpenGL 1.3 and it won’t support GPU accelerated effects. It’s a cool card, but expensive and outdated.
Adobe has a list of compatible graphics cards on their PPro2 site. They list, among the Nvidias, the 6800, 7800 and Quadro. Make sure it is OpenGL 2.0 compatible. Many of the Quadros are only OpenGL 1.5. Some 6800s are listed as 1.5. The 7800s are OpenGL 2. I plan to get a 7800.
Good luck,

There are a number of cards available at a variety of price ranges.
I’ll be examining a Quadro 4500 here very shortly, but that’s a 512MB card with 2 dual link DVI-I ports for driving displays at 2500×1600 and it runs around 1800.00 USD street price. I’ll either be using this card or a 3450 for my HD system as I need to drive a 30″ Dell Monitor at 2K resolution.
The 7800 that Aanarav mentions runs about 350.00 USD, and it’s a 512MB card with dual DVI-I as well (one port I think?). The difference here is that the 4500 probably supports Open GL applications like AE and a variety of 3d programs extremely well and the 7800 is targeted for games, though the Open GL support should be helpful for other apps. How versatile that support is on the consumer card is the question and I don’t know the answer.
