    Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some pointers on how to animate a sphere open.

I have two hemispheres that have bevelled edges, giving the impression of a sphere split in half. I have one outer sphere around them that I would like to animate to reveal the split underneath (making it look like the outer sphere is actually breaking in half).

I need the outer sphere to sort of open up and rotate out, but I have absolutely no idea how to go about this. My Cinema knowledge is fairly limited, so I’d really appreciate some help.

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you’re going for, but I did a tutorial a while back that might give you some ideas: https://www.3danvil.com/tutorials/folding%20sphere/Folding%20Sphere.html

Thanks for your comment, I tried splitting the circle and rebuilding it using an array, but it is not giving me the result I want.

I made a little graphic to demonstrate what I am after:

I tried animating the amount of sides in the array to open up the circle, but this does not open up one big hole but holes between all the sides =(

Is this what you are trying to accomplish?

I used an arc in a lathe nurb, put the lathe nurb in a symmetry object and animated the angle of the lathe nurb.
