January 12, 2023 at 4:22 pmHello, I’d like to open a Resolve 18 project with Resolve 16 – any tips? I decided to use Resolve 16 instead of Resolve 18 due to smoother playback on a MacBook Pro. Do you have any idea how to open .drp projects created in Resolve 18 with Resolve 16? Your suggestions are highly appreciated. Gary

January 13, 2023 at 8:59 amThe database and project files are not backwards compatible. You can export an XML from a timeline and open it in an older version but it is not going to carry over all the information like grades

January 13, 2023 at 9:42 amHello Michael, thank you for your suggestion. I’m aware of the XML export but this time it doesn’t solve the problem. It’s a huge material pre-arranged in lots of bins as separate scenes, this folder structure is what I need. Any tips how to carry over these bin structure into an older version of Resolve? I don’t need any effects just the bins. Truly appreciate your help!

March 4, 2023 at 8:15 amHey Gary,
As Michael already cleared, projects are not backwards compatible. If the folder structure in the Mediapool is what you wan to preserve, you can use the Media Management function.
Oper up the said project in DVR18, go to File and select Media Management. Set that up as shown in the screenshot. Create a leading directory for the location. This will create a copy of all your project media, preserving the folder structure you created.
Then, in DVR16 open a new project, and in the media page locate the directory you copied the project into. There, simply select all the folders and right-click on them, then choose “Add to Mediapool (create bins)” and that should be it.
Then, as Michael suggested, you can use an XML to bring in your timeline and CDLs to transfer the grade.
Hope this helps!

March 4, 2023 at 8:46 pmHello Riccardo, thank you for your suggestion. The core of all the problems are a hardware issue, in order to use the latest version of DVR you need the necessary specifications. I have already solved the case in another way, basically using proxies and XML exports. I truly appreciate your advise. Best regards, Gary
