open in editor
Posted by Paul on July 17, 2005 at 11:05 amI was watching the FCP 5 tutorials and they use the open in editor to get Motion 2 to open. Well, mine just opens quicktime. Then, when I use “send to” “motion project” the FCP files open in motion but the audio is not from the clips but the huge video file that I captured.
Any ideas on how to use open in editor and have motion import the audio with the clips.
Sincerely,

July 17, 2005 at 2:41 pmIf you assign Motion to be the “editor” application in the FCP System settings it will open in motion that way. But you really should use the send to command I think, leaves the editor app to be some other app possibly.
In order to get audio to go as well as the video be sure to select it in the timeline window… it does work just fine here… and using this method you can embed the Motion content… allowing you to just double click it later for changes… sort of like a nest but it opens the Motion project file when you do things this way allowing for a true round trip.

July 17, 2005 at 8:21 pmthanks for your speed reply. I try the embed motion content and I try not embedding it. You’re right that it replaces the clip in FCP but my problem is the audio. When I captured my source footage I captured the whole tape and it is one 13GB QT file. and it automatically broke it up into miniclips detecting the start and stop points for me. Then I grouped those clips into sequences. but when I go into one of those sequences and select a clip.(i.e. video + audio) then..send to… motion.. when the clip opens in motion the video is there but the audio starts at the very beginning of that huge file and the audio does not match the video. Very weird for me.
Thanks for any advice sincerely,

July 17, 2005 at 9:16 pmok, so I decided to export the sequence as a QT file. now when I open it up in Motion the audio and video are linked but I’ve lost the clip references to cuts. (i.e. its just one big long video and audio file) so…..
somethings up….did I make trouble for Motion by capturing the entire tape? or by using “create subclips using DV start/stop detection?
When opening the original FCP sequence in Motion the video is preserved as clips and the audio is a clip linked to it.. but the audio isn’t the clip’s audio from FCP its from the very beginning of entire tape QT file. hmmm……….
hate to be a nuisance on this.

July 18, 2005 at 4:03 amI’m confused. There’s the wrong audio in Motion?
Shouldn’t need to export a QT movie at all.
