Okay, usually I’m a mouse guy, but in this particular case I would much rather use the fingers on my other hand to open Motion from the FCP timeline. I’ve gone thru my little cheatsheet and the Help manuals, but nadda.

Does anyone know if this option exists, or is this something I have to set up myself?

    Thanks in advance.

    Yep it’s there already:
Select the item in the sequence and press Option-Return to open in editor.
