Nothing new in being able to drop a clip onto a timeline and be prompted “do you want to match clip to sequence or match sequence to clip”, but this prompt has stopped popping up when I drop a clip down to a sequence timeline.

Did I hit a key command accidentally? Tried trashing prefs, nothing.

    Thoughts??

    Thanks!!

What format is the footage you are dropping in?

There’s a prefrence for this in the User Prefs:

Jeremy, thanks for your quick response and insight. I double checked my workflow with this particular project and the piece of footage provided by the client was (this particular piece) was not a standard editing codec or size, it was some crazy 630 x 500 size with the Animation Codec so no wonder FCP didn’t prompt me to make such a timeline.

I tested against some normal codecs (dvcprohd 720, dvntsc 480, etc.) and all is working as expected.

I shoulda checked that “last minute” addition that was provided, but assumed it was a normal size piece of footage.

Once again, thanks for your response, it got me thinking in the right direction.

it prompts you only on the first clip you add to the sequence. after that, footage with other codecs, image sizes, etc are matched to that sequence.

Yes, if it’s a standard frame size, frame rate and editable (i.e. rt extreme enabled) codec. If they are non video spec codecs and frame sizes/rates, FCP won’t change the settings but it will rather add the clip to your timeline to whatever the timeline is set to at the time.
