Hello, I am working on a file in fcp HD 4.5 in 10-bit Uncompressed. I tried to output the movie in 10-bit to send to an effects artist who is working in Fusion. He could not see the 10-bit on his pc, even though he upgraded to QT7 for windows (we assumed the windows version did not support 10-bit). So he asked me to output an image sequence in the OpenEXR format as that had the best color depth and range and is what most of the studios are using now. I have looked at the site and can find downloads for a photoshop plugin but not instructions on some of the other software. Does anyone have experience with this format and can tell me how to get my fcp to export in this format?

    Thank you

The Windows versions of Quicktime do not include the 8 and 10 bit codecs used by FCP. Both of you can install the Blackmagic Quicktime Codecs, the same uncompressed codec used for Decklink cards…its supported by both Mac and PC. Its a free download and you do not have to have a Decklink card to use it.

I don’t think you will find a simple way to convert your FCP work into an open EXR sequence.

[Talia Raine] “So he asked me to output an image sequence in the OpenEXR format as that had the best color depth and range and is what most of the studios are using now.”

This can only be done currently with Motion 2 or Shake 4 when it ships, FCP4.5 does not handle Open EXR yet… I believe that Combustion 3 supports Open EXR also
