Open a newer premiere Pro project on a slightly older version of Premiere Pro.
Posted by Adam Berch on August 9, 2017 at 10:16 pmHi,
I was given a Premiere Pro Project CC 2015 file and footage.
I have Premiere Pro CC 2015, but I guess the file is from a slightly newer version of Premiere Pro CC 2015.
When I try to open the file it says I cannot open it because it’s from a newer version of the software. Is there any way I can open that newer project in my slightly older version of Premiere Pro? If so, how?
Thanks
I’m am on a Mac computer

August 9, 2017 at 10:24 pmNo you cannot. But if the person were to export the project as an xml you could open it.
Might loose a few features.I would update to the latest version of 2017.

August 9, 2017 at 10:51 pmHi,
I’m not worried about losing features. All it is is a 2 minute video with cuts only and some music.
Thanks

August 10, 2017 at 1:28 amI would think it would be possible to update to the final version of Pr CC 2015 if you don’t want to go all the way to 2017.

November 16, 2017 at 3:44 pmIt’s extremely straightforward to make a newer project openable in an older one, it’s just a matter of modifying the XML inside the project.
Here’s a tool which does it automatically: Premiere Project Downgrader

converted a cc2019 project into cc2018 with ease. Now my sony footage works without having to render 5 hours of wedding footage..
Thanks a bunch!
