    Hi,

I have one image layer over a larger (no color) canvas. I select the color and delete the BG from the image. Suddenly the color that remains changes from opaque to some degree of transparency. Opacity in the layers area says 100% before and after the deletion.

Sorry to post a noob Q, but not sure how to search for this one – nothing I’ve tried is coming up with this problem.
Yes, I have an older version, CS5. Just don’t use it often or deeply enough to warrant subscription costs.

    Thoughts?
    Thanks!

Best bet: your black is not 100% black, so when you select white, it’s partially selecting the area you’re trying to keep. I would make your selection like normal, then instead of deleting, make a layer mask based on your selection and adjust the levels of your mask to get pure white/black

    thanks, Jeff!

I came home to find my computer had crashed–>off. I had saved 3 similar sessions with names at the same time. Two are still there, the third – no trace. Didn’t have the same problem with the other two. No idea why the third was different in the transparency issue or in vanishing. Hopefully it will be fine to re-create, but if I run into trouble, I will absolutely try the layer mask idea.

I wasn’t going for pure black, but the entire area that was selected and not removed became transparent equally which I thought weird.

    Cheers!

Much appreciation for your sharing your admirable knowledge!
