I am so confused and my opacity control is the cause.

I am using Premiere Pro 1.5.1 on system with a Decklink HD card (with new version 5 drivers). I’m currently working with an NTSC project where I want to change to video level of clip. For example, starting with 100% color bars I want to fade the video out to black and then back to 100% over some time period.

Currently I’m working with a 10 second clip of color bars and have added key points in the opacity at the begining middle and end. Doing so produced exactly the results that I want as long as I dont render the clip. If I leave if unrendered it fades to black at 5 seconds into the clip and then back to full level at the end. This result can be seen on the “Monitor” in Premiere, on my real monitor using the Y,Pb,Pr connection, and the SDI output of my Decklink card connected to a SDI monitor and scope.

However when I render the clip that all disappears. The entire clip will then play at full level with no opacity changes seen, even though I can see the opacity fader moving in time with the keypoint. What the frig is going on here? What am I doing wrong since I figure something as simple as this couldn’t be computer error, at least that’s what HAL tells me.

Any help is greatly appreciated since I’m going nuts trying to figure why this works the way I want it to until I render it. GRRRRRR

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

Thats our bug and is being adressed in V5.1. What you can do as a work around right now, is put a black clip (slug) directly above the bars on Video track 2 and then apply the key frames and render. That should get you through until V5.1

    Cheers,

Why should this have to be rendered at all? it should just work Realtime

    Thanks,

The black video above the clip was exactly the solution I came up with yesterday.

I’m not working with DV. I’m using uncompressed SD & HD content. Thus my need to render.

    Hi Jason,

We did the code for this today and will post an installer tomorrow that will fix this.

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up. It’ll come just in time to be used in my project which would be slightly painful using the black slug workaround.

Any chance that will get posted before the weekend? And where does it get posted?
