Opacity color math
So, I have a colored square with 100% opacity on a white background. I’d like to replace it by a darker colored square with 50% opacity. Is there a simple formula or web site with a color applet that I can use to calculate how to go from the hex for the original color to the hex for the darker color?

You can calculate it by the RGB values
r1=255-(255-r0)*2
g1=255-(255-g0)*2
b1=255-(255-b0)*2You’ll see the hex value in the color picker dialog if you plug in the results there.
Note that if any of your original R, G or B values are below 128, the resulting color doesn’t fall into the RGB gamut.
