[Sascha Engel] “P.S.: Is there no way, you can export an XML File from AVID, so I can open it in FCP?”
Avid does not do XML. AAF, OMF…no XML. If you want the sequence and to link to the original media, you NEED Automatic Duck. There is a Boris plugin that is cheaper, but it isn’t as robust. The DUck works and works well.
[Sascha Engel] “Since I do not have Automatic Duck, the Offline editor has to render out his edited version, so I can work on it. The original material was shot on Sony EX1. He did the editing in the original Sony Codec. What is the best Quicktime Codec Setting, he should export it in, so I can continue in AE & Color?”
They accessed the footage via AMA? Didn’t transcode? Well…that might put a wrinkle into things. There are many issues here. Mainly that Color only accepts a few codecs…ProRes, DVCPRO HD, HDV, XDCAM from FCP (not sure how it would deal with the format exported from Avid), R3D, DV.
If I were you, I’d have the offline editor export a small 2 min chunk of video for you to test and play with…see if you can get things to work. What you might end up doing is taking the file he gives you, and transcoding it to ProRes. And if it is one loooooong file, you might have to chop it up in FCP, so that you have separate shots. Or see if you can also get an EDL from the Avid and have color chop it up.
This is slightly more difficult without the Duck…but doable.
