I did a search on this forum on how to get .mp4 video files (from a cell phone camera) into FCP. I am able to play them in something called Total Video Player but it has no Export or Save As functions.

The two suggestions that I see on this forum are: MPEG Streamclip and Quicktime. But neither one is working for me. I did a new download of Streamclip and I have the latest Quicktime (Mac and PC) but no joy on opening the files that have been sent to me.

The files were Zipped before being sent and I think perhaps that corrupted something. These .mp4 videos should be playable by Quicktime, right?

I’m hoping to get unzipped files sent to me but I’d like to save time by working with what I have, if possible. Any thoughts?

If it doesn’t work in QT it’s not going to work, most likely. What’s the icon look like? Try getting Perian. It should be able to open anything unless the file is corrupted.

    All the best,

    Hi Tom,

The icon is a normal Quicktime icon. No joy with Perian, either. I think I have some corruption at play here. I’ll do my best to get the original files.

    Thanks.

    Hi Tom,

I’ve been trying to get an .mp4 file into FCP, but it doesn’t take it. So, I tried exporting it in QT Pro “Movie to QT Movie,” but it still won’t play properly. Any other ideas?

    Thank you,
    Evelyn
