Once good media now green on timeline & in bin
While editing a 1/2 hour show this morning, opened a rough cut timeline and was suddenly confronted with a green screen. Wouldn’t play and got a “General Error” warning. Figured corrupt media. Deleted the timeline and made the media OffLine… found a few other clips in the same condition. Will redig the clips. Is there anything else to watch out for?

Yes, Goblins, particularly of the green variety.
Did this green come up when viewing the items in Quicktime Player? What changed in that time? System update? QT update? Any driver/codec updates? Did you try trashing your preferences and cache files before recapturing?

No. The only thing I trashed was the media itself. Nothing changed. Media was dig-ed last. Captured 2 hours more last night, but not anything effecting this timeline. Should I trash my PREFs? Is there a procedure for this? I’m relatively new to FCP.

Preferences can get corrupted causing all kinds of weird things. Deleting them and starting over can fix this.
What video format and codec are you working with by the way?

Trashing the cache can get rid of cahced items (waveforms and such) that have been somehow corrupted or moved or accidentally altered.

Straight DVcam brought in via firewire from a DSR-11. Using 2 250gb FW external drives for media. Show is exported via QT and FlipFactory, so realtime playback is not needed in this case.
Yea, in reading further I found the thread on the free software to re-build prefs. Unfortunately I didn’t back up prefs before. So I guess I’ll be starting over. I will trash the renders and everything else I can think of.
