Is anyone here using On2 Technologies Flix or Flix Exporter to encode Flash? If so, care to share your experiences?

I’ve tried the demo versions of both products and my preliminary findings are as follows:

Flix Exporter is terrific because it enables Flash export from all of our QT enabled apps., including: FCP, Compressor, Motion, QT Pro, etc. However, the quality of SWFs encoded in Flix Pro seem remarkably better and with far fewer compression artifacts.

I also considered Sorenson Squeeze, but it seems like overkill, duplicating a lot of functionality we already have in Compressor, and its double the price of the Flix products.

David, we have been using the On2 exporter about a month ago for our Flash encoder needs. So far it woks flawlessly. Amazingly good looking encodes with very small file sizes. Easy to use, works in QT,FCP, Compressor etc. Highly reccomend.

    Thanks Scott.

Yeh, I like the ability to export from all of our FCP Studio apps too, however, the Pro version has the additional benefit of different Flash players, which is a fairly attractive addition.

Also, I’m wondering if the demos are really giving me an accurate look at the difference between encodes on the Pro version vs. the Exporter version? The On2 website suggests that they do not update their demo versions nearly as often as they update their real apps, so its possible that the difference I’m seeing is pretty much limited to the demos.

Is anyone using the Flix Pro version???

We’ve been using the On2 Flix Exporter since last May.

It works great BUT you should probably think about using a new computer with it. It is a little taxing on your system. I have a Dual G4 that compressed thirteen episodes of a program that we edit and it took it about 8 days to compress all thirteen episodes at 640×480 300kb. This was done for a website for out program owner.

Thanks Wayne. Fortunately I’ll only be encoding rather short clips for the web, so hopefully I shouldn’t get too bogged down in the process. Guess I’ll pull the trigger…
