    hello.

i’m dealing with an awkard situation wich i can’t figure it out. i have a Premiere project with some some videos (.avi)that needs to be put on the dvd. i made the dvd video, menus in encore, everything is fine, but when i played the dvd on my tv, i only hear the sound.

    to be more specific:
    1. the videos are avi, stereo channel (48000 hz, 32 bit float, stereo)
    2. the sound contains background music and speech. i can hear them both on either channel, left or right.
    3. the sound is mixed, so i have only one track on sound in premiere, there are not separate tracks with speech and music, there are on the same track.
    4. the tv is mono, and when i play the dvd, i only hear the background music, not the speech.

    so i wanna know:
    1. how do i correct the problem. in premiere, i have 70 avi
    2. how it is possible to separate the speech from the music, when there are mixed together.

thanks for the help, i hope there’s a solution

My guess is the DVD player, TV, or sound system is setup to output 5:1 and it’s messing things up on playback.

What happens if you play the DVD on a computer?

I would also recommend that you set your Encore project settings to PCM audio as the Dolby option has been known to cause issues, especially with Windows Media Player.

nope, no 5.1 on tv or dvd. also, if i play de video file on vlc and select mono instead of stereo, i hear only the music.

i exported the audio part from premiere, and import it into sony acid and strange thing happend. if i pan the audio left or right, i lose the speech, when i aproach to the center of pan, the speech starts to hear. it’s very strange. i thought that if i hear the speech centered, it supposed to mean the speech is equal left and right..

it’s out of my powers of understanding.

Again, try changing your project settings to PCM in Encore instead of Dolby and create a new DVD.

you don’t understand. even before i move the project into encore is the same problem. i’ll try to be more specific:

somebody edited 70 files of image and sound (speech+music)
i’ve made a premiere project with those files and put chapter markers, imported the project into encore, made the dvd.

but the mono-with-no-speech problem, is from the avi files, not premiere, not encore, cause i’ve played them on VLC, and when i choose mono, i lose the speech.

It is most likely that the dialog is on the right channel. Mono takes the left channel only. Try this tutorial to use the fill right audio effect.
