I have a question regarding Avid’s OMF resolution in Media Capture. I shot some footage using the panasonic dvx 100 in 24p mode, and brought it into the Avid at DV 25 res. My question is, would my video look better if I brought the footage in at OMF 1:1 or since it was shot on DV, is DV 25 the best I’ll quality I’ll get? I appreciate any insight into this issue.
    Thanks.

Are you bringing the footage in via Firewire? If so, the best resolution you will get is DV25. Capturing 1:1 via firewire only wastes space. DV via firewire ‘is what it is’. Ones & zeros. you can’t double the rate of DV by capturing uncompressed. I’m not even sure you get anything more by capturing via SDI. It’s not an issue with the OMF format, it’s the data rate associated with DV.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong…

    Hey Jon
Yes, I brought the footage in via Fire wire. Thank you for the response. I feel better now about the res quality of my video, or lack there of in the system. That 1:1 question haunts me no more.
