I have a feature which has track groups separated for efx, music mix, vo, interview, etc. There are 20 tracks in all. The movie is 113 minutes. I cannot seem to export ANY length of the movie to OMF without getting the 2gb limit screen. 3minutes, 30 minutes, it doesn’t matter. I must be doing something fundamentally wrong.

What button am I not pushing?

    TIA,

    Jay Curlee

The OMF format itself has that 2GB limit. The solution would be to break up the project into smaller chunks. For TV we break the show into ACTS (stuff between commercials) and in feature films, they break it up onto REELS (20 min loads)…and this can keep it under 2GB. So what you need to do is break your main project into several smaller ones (find good cut points) about 10-20 min in length and export them individually. If you DUPLICATE the project say 5 times, and cut them up that way, you can retain the main sequence timecode.

I somehow thought I could place in and out points and export that way. I guess that doesn’t work.

    Thanks,

    Jay

I also meant to say that there are overlapping sound elements almost everywhere. That will make finding a cut point tough.

If you can’t make it work that way, you can also export several tracks at a time instead of breaking up into sections….HOWEVER…several audio guys here have stated that they dont like dealing with it that way. Consult with your audio mixer and find out what he is more comfortable with.

Sorry…IN and OUT points don’t work (wish they did)…and it would be best to find or make a cut point. And also…for the future…plan for this eventuality.

But yes…do contact the sound mixer for what they prefer.
