OLD VHS tapes into FCP
Maybe not the the right forum but here it goes. Have a ton of old VHS tapes, dont want to send them off, get dvds made, then have to re convert to file that will allow me to work with it in FCP. Want to buy a gadget that will allow me to play tapes, ingesting into the mac in one set up…is this possible?

Play the VHS tapes and burn a DVD on a deck such as our Pioneer.
Log and capture the VHS tapes to FCP on mac.
Play the VHS tapes using a small but sharp monitor. Videotape that with your HD camera.

my understanding is that NTSC DV colour space of 4.2.0 makes for not-so-great DVDswith Intensity shuttle you can capture as Prores, DV, or Uncompressed
but you need Thunderbolt.either way you may also like to think about some noise reduction.

Yeap.
I’ve mentioned the Canopus because is the most popular one due to his low price.
Any device that allows to capture with a better codec will make a better job.
VHS is a very compressed format, so avoiding further compression is the only way to avoid further picture degradation.
