Any ideas as to how to create a flicker effect like an old movie? I have some football clips that I want to give the illusion of watching an old silent movie.

    Thanks

Lots of Plug-In Filters for this with various settings to make it look AGED.

Nattress has “Film Damage” and others. Good stuff.

Eureka! has “Film Grain” and “Jiggle”

CHV has “Film” (one of my favorites)

    That should get you started.

this is an easy way: go to export movie, then quicktime conversion. in there, you should find something that says filters. look for film, or something that sounds like that and tweak it, until your desire look. let me know if you got it!

These look great. Do any of them create the flicker effect? Don’t need for much film damage effect or aged sepia look. muted colors, a little stutter and a light flicker

Boris Continuum has a fantastic set of film effects which include full flicker control. I highly recommend these filters as a great “swiss army knife” of effects that are quite useful in day to day editing.

What your looking for is already in FCP. Go to the effects tab and twirl through until you find something called Flicker. It has settings for how frequently the picture flickers. Its great and if you add a matt to mask the the edges you get the effect you are looking for.
