a friend of mine is trying to capture mini dv video with a DSR11. she does not know which camera it was shot with, and only knows that it is 30i mini-DV footage. anyone out there who might know how to help. Capture setting? we have tried a lot of settings we thought might make sense. any help…quickly…she has a deadline…would be greatly appreciated.

Normally it would be DV-NTSC 48 or 32. If these settings do not work, I am guessing the tape was shot in LP mode which the SR-11 will not playback. You will need a deck that plays in LP mode.

Canon tapes (especially older ones) are notorious for not being able to be played on other brand units, or sometimes only on the camera that recorded them.

Try playing/capturing the tapes in a borrowed Canon camcorder (any model) if the original camcorder is not available.

It certainly COULD be an LP-speed tape, and you might be in a mess if that’s the case.
That tape might not play on anything other than the original camcorder, and maybe not well, even then.

A older Canon DV LP speed tape just might be the most finicky DV tape ever recorded.
