Here I am, all set to capture HDcam footage in the new ProRes Proxy so I can offline and then reload to finish, all in FCP7. So where’s my capture setting for Proxy? I have sequence settings for everything in the world plus three, but not in the capture settings. I’ve got a couple of 8-core Mac Pros with Kona 3’s in them pulling down HDSDI. I’m tired of making up my own offline capture settings that end up causing issues in finish timelines. Do I have to install the newest drivers for the Kona? I’ve poured through the literature and there’s nothing to indicate that anywhere. I know I’m missing something, but what is it?
And anyone else having trouble with Soundtrack crashing on exit and having huge issues with memory?
    Thanks

Yes, you need the latest Kona drivers or at least the ones that support fcp7. Then you have to install the additional easy setups to match the format you need. It’s all there.

Thanks, that’s what we suspected and we already downloaded the drivers. I am wont to install new drivers on a working system/card. I am peeved that there’s nothing in the Apple documentation that mentions updating drivers to the Kona card or any other card for that matter. But now, thanks to this conversation, an answer will at least show up on the web. We updated the one machine and we’re capturing 422 Proxy right now.
This supports my position of not bothering to look at the software publisher’s manual for answers. The indexing is almost always terrible. It’s much easier to google a question and let google find the references in the manual, as well as what often turns out to be better results elsewhere.

    Thanks much for the help.

Apple does not sell and therefore support AJA cards in the manual. AJA does. So when you upgrade your system, you have to look at all the parts and see if there’s updates. If you need to use FCP7, I would most definitely install the drivers and firmware that support FCP7. It would be silly not to. I would also use the AJA uninstaller first, then install the new drivers. When you go to Snow Leopard, you will have to install all the drivers and firmware needed for all of your PCI cards for that as well. Fcp never has been an all in one system. You always buy it piece meal and it’s up to you to support it, or pay a VAR to track and update your systems for you.

Why should they? They don’t make the AJA Kona boards (or the Matrox or the BMD or the MOTU products) so they don’t mention them in their documentation. There’s something like 900 products you can use with Final Cut Pro. It’s not Apple’s responsibility to document the proper operation with each and every product in their own manual. They simply document how to use their own product. It’s your responsibility to install the proper combination to ensure the proper operation of FCP.

As has been pointed out, install the latest AJA Drivers if you want the ProRes Proxy Capture.

If have FCP7 but do not have a Kona, or any capture card for that matter, then can you still capture video using ProRes Proxy?

Having the same problem, but don’t have a capture card, and the only options available to me in the L&T Preferences pane are Native, ProRes and ProRes(HQ). This is only for REDCODE (which I’m trying to transcode to ProRes Proxy codec), but the ProRes LT and Proxy options are available below the REDCODE settings for AVCHD.

    What gives?
