    Evening!
I’m working on a project that uses a number of quicktime animation files. I have noticed a small flaw in the animations and would like to re render a few of these files. Is it ok to overwrite media already used in a Vegas pro session? I believe the renders should be the exact same duration and file name.
Also I have looked around and it doesn’t seem possible to add a folder and all media contained in that folder to a media bin. It could be handy if I didn’t have to add a new file every time I add one to the folder, but I assume this is not possible. My example would be drag a folder to a media bin. Then every time vegas was opened it would see media added to that folder.
    Thanks in advance!

I’m not sure what the question is. Vegas is non-destructive, so the original media is never modified. The project file (.veg) contains editing instructions from the timeline and pointers to the source media. If you replace a media clip (if it’s on the timeline, it’s an event – not a clip) with one with the same name, then Vegas won’t know anything was changed. If the new clip is a different size from the original, you may have issues because Vegas won’t adjust the timeline to the new size.

The safest way to make changes to clips is to use a different name for the new clip and in the Project Media window, right-click on the old clip and select “Replace”.

Thanks for the response. I understand Vegas is non destructive. Just didn’t know how it would respond to a. Would same file name with a different creation date effect the NLE? Would thumbnails up date? ( not sure if they were stored or regenerated each time. I just figure this type of thing might happen all the time with people deciding to alter a piece of media in After effects or photoshop.
I’ll give it a shot and see how it works.

You really can’t break anything in Vegas. Just do a save-as to a new filename that describes what you’re doing then go ahead and experiment. If you don’t like what happens, delete that veg file and open the last known good one and try something else.
