[David Mathis] “It is now the middle of June with me waiting for another update to FCP X wondering what gives. I am getting worried that it might be the next item that will be on the EOL list. Guess it is time for Plan B to be put in place.

    The sky isn’t falling.

After Magix bought Vegas Pro they decided to offer to buy FCPX rather than make a Mac version. Apple said yes.
It was actually Magix that did the NAB presentation and that’s why they had everyone sign the NDA.

Just as many rumour sites ‘read the tea leaves’ on dwindling stocks or big discount on a particular item to predict an impending update, when I start seeing discounts on tutorials on a particular software, I think an update is around the corner. Maybe some tutorial makers are given an ‘inside track’ on features in the update a bit before time so they can get their updates ready on launch day. So they ‘know’ and then begin discounting their inventory. This is just conjecture, of course.

At Ripple Training, I saw discounts on Resolve 11 Tutorials just before 12 was announced. And, their FCP 10.2 tutorials were ready so soon after the launch of FCP 10.2 that it looked like they had it in advance. And, if I remember right 10.1 tutorials are discounted weeks before 10.2 was available.

Take a look at their FCP X tutorial page now…

And here I am trying to think of what one big thing the next release might include that I just have to have or else! 😉

    Can’t think of it….

Just noticed that Ripple Training is having a “Sizzling Summer Sale” with FCP X training for 40% off, just got an e-mail yesterday. Could this indicate a new version?

Although with online tutorials it’s not like they’re dumping old stock. It may widen their contact list for upgrades to new training though.

Oh, Timecode overlays with source timecode (and other metadata), center timeline on zoom in/out, multiple browser windows, a simple way to use alpha channels in proxy mode, better keyframe gui. Just off the top of my head. There are lots of things that need polish. I gave them until the last underwhelming update to make a semi-final decision for our office. I still use FCPX a lot for smaller personal projects, but for our “professional” work, we’ve settled on Premiere. They are consistently making solid improvements while I twiddle my thumbs waiting blindly on updates to FCPX. Like I said, though, I use it a lot. I just wish improving it were a bigger priority.

[John Young] “Timecode overlays with source timecode (and other metadata),”

    That would be useful

[John Young] “center timeline on zoom in/out, “

that could work better, but the fact I can focus the zoom with playhead or scrubber is great, really miss that when In Premiere

    [John Young] “multiple browser windows,”

not a biggie for me, but sure, as an option. I’ve grown to hate browser panel clutter…

[John Young] “a simple way to use alpha channels in proxy mode”

    yep

    [John Young] “better keyframe gui.”

Honestly, the fact that in Pr the key framing UI is so far removed from the clip is maddening. X could definitely be improved, but I prefer the UI on the clip method at this point. YMMV of course. 🙂

[John Young] “I just wish improving it were a bigger priority.”

Just a guess, but I think it is. Obviously not as quickly as some would like…
