  • Offset time on looping layers

    Posted by Jeff Halstad on June 24, 2013 at 5:47 pm

    I am creating a mechanical machine type of animation. Kind of like a pulley system. I have about 12 “buckets” that need to all loop around the main conveyor belt. I have gotten to the point where I can get them to be offset in time but then when one layer reaches the end it pauses until the other layers catch up to it when I need it to keep going around seamlessly. I’m not even sure if i should be offsetting time, i tried position but then it moved the whole position of the path, not just the buckets position on the path like i need. Any ideas? I feel like this is an easy fix, I just don’t know what to do! Thanks!

    This is what I have set up so far.

    and the slider effect has the loopOut expression on it.

    PathPercent=effect("Path Percent")("Slider");
    PathLength=comp("PATH").duration;
    PathCalc=(PathLength*PathPercent)/100;
    position

    PathPos =comp("PATH").layer("PATH").position.valueAtTime(PathCalc);

    I can’t tell exactly from what you have posted, but I the basic idea would be to calculate each layer’s time like this:

    myTime = (time + myOffset)%totalLoopTime;

    Then you would use valueAtTime(myTime)

    Something like that.

    Thanks Dan, I will try that out.

    Sorry, I should have been more specific. All the Buckets are on the same layer
