  • Offset Paths Changes Direction of Trim Path.

    Hi,

I’m trying to do, what feels to me should be, a relatively simple animation.

I need to animate a Trim Path around a shape that has been created in Adobe Illustrator. The Illustrator shape has been created using an inner stroke, and so to match the dimensions I need the After Effects shape to also have an inner stroke.

For some reason, in 2024, After Effects doesn’t have a simple inner or outer stroke option, and so I’m having to use an Offset Path. However when I apply the Offset Path it changes the direction of the Trim Path from counter-clockwise to clockwise.

The change path direction has zero effect on the direction once the Offset Path is applied, and the animation will always move clockwise.

Is there a simple fix to this that I’m missing, or is this one of After Effects fun little “quirks” that should have been fixed years ago?

Hi Tom, I cant seem to replicate this, an AE shape with offset paths and trim paths trims anti clockwise, as does an illustrator file i imported and converted to shape, so i guess im missing something. Are you able to share the troublesome Ai file? or ae file. Or some screenshots of settings and what not
