What is everyone using as their offline capture format using the Kona3. I seemed to be limited on the formats and DV is the smallest data rate. I have poked around and tried to set it up in a Photo JPEG resolution but it keep looking for a firewire device. I will spend some time running tests to see what works but, in the meantime could anyone share their workflow and settings?

My source footage is on digibeta which is a standard round trip in 8bit uc. I would like to start bringing in a lot more footage to give me more options when making changes.

Try DV50. It’s 4:2:2 color space and pretty small file size. There should be an 8 bit to DV50 easy setup.

How much footage are talking about bringing in?

a 3 hour mini series. The default is DV which I assume is DV25. It works. It was about 140gb for 190 minutes which seems high to me. I was looking more toward 20-25 gb an hour.

    The Kona 3 Manual states:
    DV50 / 27gb/hr
    DV25 / 14gb/hr
    PhotoJPEG / 9gb/hr

I used DV25 and it came out around 47gb/hr. I must have done something wrong.

Yeah, you should be getting around 14GB/hr with two channels of audio.

To capture in dv, all you need to do is choose the AJA Kona 3 NTSC 8Bit to DV easy setup.
