  • offline quicktime codec with alpha channel

Posted by Anders Bundgaard on June 22, 2015 at 7:09 pm

    hello all.

having just updated to osx 10.10 (yosemite) and missed out 10.9 all together i’ve only now realised that quicktime files using the animation codex does not preview in the finder.

so… what’s the best codec (that apple likes) to use for offline graphics that need an alpha channel?

    thanks in advance
    anders

[anders bundgaard] “what’s the best codec (that apple likes) to use for offline graphics that need an alpha channel?”

With “that Apple likes” being the driving factor, ProRes 4444.

[anders bundgaard] “so what are the options for an offline codec with alpha channel support?”

You could render RGB (fill) and alpha (matte) to separate movie files with whatever codec you like.
