I bought the avid book copied the MediaFiles to my imac on board hard drive but when i try and open projects it still looks to the dvd that came with the book. i took the dvd out and all the clips went offline.

sorry this is such a beginner question. ive looked online and cant find info about it.

is media drive and Macintosh HD the same?

    Many Thanks

Make sure the files are in a root folder called:

    Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1

That folder should only contain the .mxf files. Also note when copying projects (or any file) from a CD/DVD that they are locked. Just “get info” or properties and be sure to allow changes and all that good stuff.

Once you launch Media Composer, it should re-index itself and link.
