Off Topic: shooting lens tests for measuring resolving power
Since most of you guys shoot video professionally, i’d like to get your opinion when it comes to testing camera lenses. What is the preferred method of testing: shooting video and extracting one frame, or utilizing the camera’s photo mode (if available) and shooting a still photo image? Or does it not matter which method is used?
I’ll have to peruse the B&H site. I’m sure they sell simple charts I can buy to undertake my simple lens tests.

If you’re talking about the lens on a video camera, the tried and true method is to use a proper test chart. B&H does sell a lot of different ones. The chart manufacturer that I’m familiar with is DSC labs and here’s a link to their resolution charts.

If those are too much money for you, here’s a link to a free one that you can download and print. This one is designed for still cameras but might be suitable for your use. I highly recommend using a laser printer for the best possible quality.

Google “video lens test chart” (without the quotes) as there are a lot of sites out there with very useful information.
