  • Off Topic – Compensation for After Effects, HD DVD and Blu-ray author

    Hi Guys,

I know this is off topic, but I know you guys are the best!

I have a general questions. I’ve been working for the same company for about five years now when I was still just in high school and now five years later, I am still at roughly the same wage (which is just ‘slightly’ over minimum wage). Now, I really don’t want to leave the job because I like what I’m doing, but the compensation is appalling!

I was wondering if any of you could give me a ball park number on what After Effects artists or DVD Authors (I do both, but lately more motion graphics and menu design) usually get paid. Also, can you specify what currency, since I’m in Canada and will have to do a conversion to get a general idea.

    Thank you all very much

Check the Business COW forum, or the Broadcast Graphics forum, or maybe the DVD Authoring forum.

It would be “on-topic” there. : ) Search first, by the way — your questions may have been answered.

It sounds like I’m doing pretty much the same thing you are, I work in AE and PS to make DVD Menu art. I’m paid about $14/hr US Dollars.

I would say that there is no real ballpark figure in this field. Basically you are as good as you are talented and your pay should reflect this. Don

Hey Brian, did you work on the Dragons Lair Blu-Ray Disc coming out pretty soon?

Yes, I did all the graphics for that title. I was GOING to do the authoring too, but we quickly found out that the standard authoring layer couldn’t handle what we wanted to do…so we had to get our Java guy to do the programing.
