Hello. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how they pulled Odo’s shape shifter change clothes effect so seamlessly from setup to post. And how to pull this off in After Effects.

Well, the overall shape and cut of the two outfits is quite similar, so a track and roto is my first guess. Since they have a lot of digital models for the Odo character, it might just be a matter of substituting one of the entire body models or the body, sans head, just before his arms come down, then you’re just altering the texture and bump maps to make the clothes seem to change. Finish by morphing back to the live Odo head, and find a spot to cut away as soon as you can. The lapels hardly seem to change at all. It was impossible for me to frame-by-frame this vimeo playback, so that’s the best I can suggest.

Thanks for your input Mark. It is indeed tough to analyze when you view it frame by frame.
