    Hi all,

Currently cutting on a clients FCP 5.11 system, running on a dual core 2Ghz G5 with 4.5 gigs ram, G-SATA raid and a Sonnet E4P sata card. Editing in HDV. The odd problem is that my thumbnails keep disappearing! More specifically, I’ll open a bin and some clips will have an offline icon – even though they’re not. The thumbnail may come back – but then may go ‘offline’ again. The media is always there though, when you load a clip into the viewer! This seemingly random behaviour is starting to make me nervous!

Shades of HAL… “I’m sorry Jason, I can’t possibly let you put that shot there….’

    Any thoughts?

    Jason

Try deleting everything out of your “Thumbnail Cache Files” folder (wherever you specified that folder to be in your user settings). Restart FCP and all new thumbnails will be recreated. If that doesn’t do it, try trashing your preferences. Hope that helps.

You know how you have a problem and you try googling the answer to it. Trying to find different ways to word the problem so the answer can be found by the all mighty google. Well it led me to this thread and amazingly it sorted a problem I’ve had for ages. I just want to say thank you for that answer. It was spot on. And I feel a weight lifted off my mind. Keep up the good work and I will always pass on the info.
