  • Odd desktop preview problem w/ 10-bit uncompressed clips

    Greetings!

A client supplied me with some clips using the Blackmagic 10-bit Uncompressed codec. I have the Blackmagic codecs installed on my machine and the clips play fine in QT7. However, when I import the clips into FCP 5.0.3 I get a warning dialog indicating that the clips are “not optimized for final cut pro” and the clips only display green in the desktop preview window. The clips are displayed properly through my IoLD and otherwise playback smoothly.

I then tried the following experiment. I used QT7 to convert from Blackmagic 10-bit to both the Aurora 10-bit and the Aurora 8-bit eXtreme codecs. The Aurora 10-bit version comes in w/o a warning but still displays green in desktop preview. The Aurora 8-bit version comes in w/o any warnings and displays properly in the desktop preview. So it seems to be related to 10-bit. I’ve futzed around with all of the obvious settings etc but cannot get the dreaded green to go away.

Any insights and suggestions for things to try would – as ususal – be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Have you tried 8-bit blackmagic. I think that the BM-card supports 8bit to dv bridge. but not 10bit to DV.
