I have encountered a strange problem…All of this was done OHCI…upon completing a project (about 45 minutes), I rendered and began playback to my DSR11 for a DV master…several times during this operation the timeline would continue to play, but suddenly the deck was not receiving any signal (for about 2 seconds) …then it would kick back in.(This deck has recorded flawlessly for much longer lengths, so I doubt it is a DSR11 problem)…It did this when just playing back timeline and recording to deck and also when using export to tape. The timeline continues playing on the desktop when this happens! I do not know of anything else that could be running in the background to cause this (dedicated machine) .. I am using the firewire connector on the motherboard- P4C800- (I have done this many times before) could this possibly be a cause?? Would an OHCI card be any better/more reliable?? Any ideas are welcome as this is extremely irritating and time consuming…Thanks ..George

Seems pretty odd, particularly on a proven machine.

Have you tried an uninstall/reinstall of Premiere Pro?

…or maybe even a quick repair installation?

I know it’s pretty chicken soup-ish, but it may correct it.

The only other thing I can think of is to attempt to unplug and re-seat the FW card. I recently had a rash of just odd FireWire behavior on one of my machines recently…the FW card was not screwed down quite tight enough and the repeated plug/unplug cycles we go through apparently slightly unseated the card, but not enough to fail all the time. Annoying.

Do these dropouts repeat in the same place if you try to redo it, if so expand the time line in the area of the drop and see if there is dead space on the timeline in those particular places.

I have pitched several firewire cables for same problem. Anti-virus can cause this.

Thanks for the replies! I will try the cable replacement and will check for anything not seated properly…it does not happen at the same place on the timeline and it does not happen at any predictable interval ..I double checked for timeline “gaps” first thing …If these actions do not cure it, I will go for the un/re-install …there is no anti-virus on this machine(it is not connected to internet) …thanks again, George

    Sorry, no solution here..
I’m surprised not more people have this problem – I’ve had it for ages (years?) and still don’t know what causes it.
    My system –
    AMD 3500
    WinXpPro
    radeon graphics
sony trv-33 for output to monitor
    onboard sound card

It does stop doing this when I Export to Tape though – which is good… it’s like the firewire service keeps getting unterrupted until Premiere (or whatever, After Effects for eg) decides it needs uninterrupted access… Very Weird.
I’ve tried different cables, different motherboards, using firewire card or onboard motherboard firewire, disabling one etc…
Hope this helps, adding to the original post…

Thanks for the reply..at least I’m not the only one with this odd problem, but export to tape doesn’t help in my case. It is very frustrating indeed.
