  • object visibility during animation

Lots of questions lately! I am working on an animation in which I want to make an object visible perhaps a hundred frames into it. I use a pBlurp to change a chunk of steel into a text object…when the PBlurp has run it course I want it to explode out from the force of the particles that created it. Does anyone know how to turn on the original text object (which is turned off so the pblurp can run) i.e. make it re-visible so that I can explode it. Perhaps it would be easier to use a separate object altogether. In which case how do I make it visible part way into an animation? Tags? Xpresso? Any suggestions?

I would use two objects. You can keyframe visibility several ways. If you just want the object to appear/disappear in a single frame the easiest way is to keyframe the “visible in renderer” parameter in the object’s Basic tab (the lower traffic light dot). If you want to animate an object fading in/out, give the object a display tag and animate the visibility parameter. Of course you can also animate material transparency or alpha. And lastly, you could simply animate the object so it moves behind, or from behind, the camera in a single frame.

Cineversity is a great resource. Lynda.com also has good Cinema content. There are also some personal tutors who will give lessons remotely via screen sharing.

There are a few Cinema 4D classes being offered in the Bay Area in July and August. I know it’s in San Francisco, but it’s not a bad place to visit:

Intro to Cinema 4D July 16-17

Intro to Cinema 4D August 6-7

    Cinema 4D Intermediate August 20-21
