I’ve been seeing this effect around lately. I’ve been trying to search for tutorials, but can’t seem to find one for it. Any ideas? I’m a C4D beginner, so please be specific. Thanks in advance!

The way I would do it is to clone a bunch of discs onto the vertices of a plane. Then deform the plane using the formula deformer (for the ripple effect), or cloth, or the flag deformer, etc. Use a mograph target effector to keep the discs facing the camera.

    Example: 9125_spotseffect.c4d.zip

Thank you for the reply, Adam!

This looks like a right approach. I don’t quite understand how it’s build though. Would you mind explaining it in detail? A step by step would be really useful. Mainly, I don’t understand how the disc is connected to the plane. I just started using C4D, so any help is really appreciated.

I would suggest you check out the MoGraph video tutorials that Mylenium did here at the Cow. I think it was a six or seven part series. Here’s the first one on the cloner: https://library.creativecow.net/articles/mylenium/MoGraph_cloning.php
