  • Object Buffer in C4D lite causes texture to disappear

    Hi,
I’m trying to do a multipass render from c4d lite into after effects.
I’ve set up a simple scene for troubleshooting purposes:

I want to render an object (a red cube)
and a plane in order to catch shadows, so that I can composite them into a 2D video clip in After Effects.

I’ve set up the following multi-passes in Render Settings:

    (Enabled Multipass)
Set up two object buffers with object ID 1 and 2
    And a shadow pass

I’ve added a composite tag to each of my objects:

When I render the view in c4d it looks right:

But my multipasses are stripped of all texture:

And the same is true in After Effects.

I can export as RGBA, but then I will end up with the plane in my render, and I only want to use the plane as a shadow catcher.

I can’t export as stills because I’m using C4D lite, and it’s maximum render resolution is 800×600 (I’m working at 1920×1080).

    What am I missing?

    Many thanks,
    Tom

Object buffers are just alphas to be used in your compositing application to isolate your objects, so you need to render a beauty pass or whatever regular channels you need (diffuse, reflection, etc.) in addition to the buffer passes.

In AE you use object buffers as luma mattes.
