  • object axis rotates incorrectly

    G’day,

I have my self an extruded spline of an obtuse triangle. what I needed to do was move the object axis to one of the angled edges and rotate it so that the triangle will pivot along that edge.
This has been done no problem. when I go back to my useModel Tool and click the rotation icon the shape looks as though it rotates how i’d like by grabbing the red band of the rotate tool and dragging it.

When I try to animate the shape fold over 180′ however it doesn’t swing just along that edge. It changes in heading, pitch and bank all at once making for a really awkward tween. Even with auto keyframe and locking all but the x axis (which is the red band on the rotate tool I want) it still twists and turns all funny during the animation.

Sorry if this is an obvious fix, but I have looked for similar questions and went through my Lynda Training DVD’s but all of no help. Thank-you

Seems that by putting the extrude into a null and then going back and selecting the extrude again the rotation values reset and I am able to rotate as I had expected. Thanks anyways.

Welcome to the weird world of the HPB rotation order. :/ I suggest you check out Cactus Dan’s mechanical rigging tutorial which is available here: https://www.c4dportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2501

He does an excellent job of explaining the problem and offers some solutions. He uses his plugin suite, but you can do the same thing with Cinema’s look at and clamp tags.
