For AE CS6, specifically, its ray-tracing GPU acceleration, the supported cards can be found here – https://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/tech-specs.html

Take note that nVidia’s newer Kepler cards are not updated on the list – the GTX 680 is supported in the .01 update to CS6 (aka version 11.0.1).

The other bits on hardware acceleration in AE CS6 aren’t earth-shattering cos they mainly drive the drawing of the UI. It’s mostly cosmetic to me but there may be others who think otherwise.

More info on CS6 and GPUs here – https://blogs.adobe.com/toddkopriva/2012/05/gpu-cuda-opengl-features-in-after-effects-cs6.html

And here are benchmarks for GPU accelerated ray-tracing in CS6 –
https://twitter.com/rendernyc/status/208421894792298496/photo/1/large. Do take note that this benchmark is a one-off test that lacks robustness but the results thus far, from other sources, are pretty consistent in terms of which cards provide the most bang for your cash.

Thanks Roland, appreciate it, think this paragraph explains everything I was looking for

The reason that the GPU-accelerated ray-traced 3D renderer is limited to working on only specific GPUs is simple: testing. We are committed to making After Effects stable and reliable—as well as fast—so we must thoroughly test every card that we say After Effects will use to provide these features.

Hi Stuart, I’m curious as what that sentence means to you.

    Cheers

I was wondering why all the cuda cards on this list

    https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus

    weren’t on this list

    https://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html

    That paragraph answered my question

    Thanks again
