I just installed a new graphics card in my computer and when I turn it on, there’s a continuous beeeeeeep.

I installed the NVidia GeForce 6800 256MB. The booklets don’t say whether or not it is compatible with my computer. I’m posting this in the hardware forum also, but thought someone in here might be able to help.

    Thanks,

    My Specs:
    PrPro 1.5
    WinXP pro
    ASUS P4C800E Deluxe Mobo
    P4 3.2 HT proc.
    2 GB DDR400
    400 gig serial RAID (maxtor)
    80 gig Main Drive
    onboard RAID controller
    GeForce 6800 dual, 256MB graphics
    Pyro firewire card
    Audigy Platinum sound card

This is an indication of a hardware problem and is best suited to the hardware forum.

A constant beep usually indicates a RAM or Video card fault.

The reason why I posted here is because I am a long-time PrPro user and have has a lot of problems with it. I have reason to believe my graphics card may be at least a part of the problem.

I need recommendations for a better card than what i currently have, which is the RAdeon 9000 Pro.

I’m using a ATI Radeon 9600 with an Apple 23″ Cinema display. The only problem I encounter is the card doesn’t support DOS display resolutions and that would be the only reason I’d need to upgrade. A faster card in many cases means more noise.

The 9600 card is more than capable for Premier Pro (and After Effects) and if still available is very cheap.

Adobe’s website is the best place for recommended and supported cards but many here will be able to recommend too.

Could it be BARS & TONE?

Before I get flamed . . . I’m a friend of Jason’s and have walked through his PPro problems with him.

We both use it, but he’s always had hardware issues that we have not been able to figure out.

Sorry Jason, I could not resist!

    Jason,
A loud beep often occurs in two different situations: hardware failure or operating system corruption. I used to have the loud beeping noise (which was annoying and REALLY loud) and the culprint was the motherboard. Replaced the motherboard and so far so good!

[jason] ” installed the NVidia GeForce 6800 256MB.”

Do you uninstall the ATI 9000 drivers before installing the Nvidia card? you should uninstall the previous cards drivers before shutting down to install a new card.

I took back the NVidia card and got a Radeon X850 Pro.
    So far, so good.

    Hi,

Those cards are a little overkill unless you are playing games. If you want to save money, an Nvidia 6600 or ATI x600/x700 would be fine, as would be older cards like ATI 9600/9800 and something like an Nvidia 5700/5900.

If it’s working and you can afford it, I would keep the X850.
