Well, Nucleo Pro isn’t out yet – but looks promising.

Nucleo itself is mostly worth it if you have a multi-CPU box, or dual-core CPU. As you can see from the benchmarks on the site, which are quite realistic, a reasonable to considerable speed increase can be achieved with Nucleo – depending on the type of project and the plugins used.

But is it worth it? Well, on my dual Opteron system I’d see the CPU’s used around 60 to to 70 percent, depending on the type of plugins used. With Nucleo they are used 100% during a preview. So I get more out of my hardware.

Worth it for me. But it depends on your system, too.

I concur. Nucleo raises my processor activity to 100% as well. This is good.

Based on Gridiron’s claims and past performance, I pre-ordered Nucleo Pro.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I have a dual core G4 at the office and a new Mac Book Pro at home, which is also dual core. So sounds like this would be a very worthy investment for me. Thanks again!

From what I’ve heard, it IS great – but you’d better invest in a bunch more RAM. Apparently, it boots up several iterations of AE, some of which run in the background. We all know AE will hog any RAM it can, so you can imagine the possibility of affected performance.

The way nucleo is going now, I’d say pick up the standard version of it and see if you like it (its a very reasonable price). If you get a big performance boost (it might not be big, but you will get a boost depending on your CPUs), go for pro. Pro’s nicest attribute is the background renderer — render while you work. Standard nucleo has saved my tail a few times already, cracking 15 hour renders down to around 3 or 4 hours. But then again I’m lucky enough to be on a G5 quad with 8 gigs of memory.

nucleo loves memory and multiple cores —
