Forgive the shameless self promotion, but I wanted to post that GridIron Nucleo 1.0.4 for AE 7 is available for download. Performance gains with Nucleo are about the same with AE 7 compared to AE 6.5. Ironically, we designed Nucleo for AE 7, and decided that we could also support 6.5 after it was built. This means that Nucleo is better integrated with AE 7 than 6.5.

As an example, in AE 7 there is no seperate render button to click, just hit AE’s render button in the render queue, and if Nucleo is installed, Nucleo will provide the render.

Nucleo 1.0.4 also has many speed improvements, and overall stability fixes, so I recommend that all users (for AE 6.5 and 7) get the download as soon as possible.

Lastly, its GridIron’s birthday! Hard to believe I started the company 5 years ago on Feb 1st. To that end, we decided to celebrate by having a special. Anyone can now get Nucleo or X-Factor at 20% off the regular price. This special is only until 11:59pm EST on Feb 1st, 2006.

To save 30 bucks when purchasing Nucleo, you must enter in a special “Promo Code” during the purchase process (when we ask for your credit card). Just enter “savetwenty” in the promo code part of the form and your price will change from $149.95 to $119.95.

Thanks again for your continued support.

Congratulations on the (first!) five years, and all best for what’s to come.

We on the user side depend on the efforts of creative developers to make fast, flexible and usable tools available – and as hi def takes over we’re all going to be stretching our little budget systems way beyond their comfort zones.

If we were to get left entirely to the devices of the software “giants” (Adobe, Apple, Avid, Autodesk (is there an A theme here?) maybe Media 100, Sony, Thompon/Canopus maybe MediaI00 think we’d lose out a lot in speed of response and range and versatility of tools So please keep up the good work: no doubt you have some interesting ideas for new products to develop … !

[Mike_S] “If we were to get left entirely to the devices of the software giants…”

It seems to be fashionable these days to do some cathartic Adobe-bashing these days, but Steve will be the first to agree with me that all the cool things that come our way in the shape of 3rd party plug-ins, are primarily made possible by the incredible work that the Adobe development team puts into their plug-in architecture and API’s.

So even sometimes we may not directly see the result of their work, there’s a reason why there are so many plug-ins for After Effects… It’s got a very powerful API.

Just felt an uncontrollable urge to give my perspective on this.

Of course this doesn’t make Nucleo any less cool!

    Thanks!

We’re cooking up a couple of new things for the NAB timeframe, so it should be interesting. Sometimes being small has its advantages!

Yep – definitely agree with you on that one. The AE API’s are probably the richest in the industry. Its no wonder that Combustion, FCP etc all have based their plugin architectures on AE’s foundation.

Not just is the AE API rich though, the development team is very accessible. They encourage a collaborative development environment, which allows us to have a big impact on their stuff, as well as them having a big impact on our stuff.

All in all, we will be supporting other products beyond AE in the future, but we generally think of AE first because of its rich API structure. I wouldn’t be surprised if thats the case for many 3rd parties.
