    Hey There;

    I’m preparing for a trip to Indonesia to document an archaeological dig in the Spice Islands. I’ll be shooting HD 720p30 on a Panasonic HVX200. At the end of our 6 week field season I’ll be presenting a 10 minute doc for Indonesian television. My plan is to export my 720p30 timeline using Quicktime Conversion to a PAL DVCPro 50 Quicktime. I’m wondering what the capabilities of Final Cut Pro are for exporting my 720p30 timeline to a PAL Quicktime. I see the options are there, but having never worked with PAL before, I don’t know what sort of quality I’ll get from doing my conversion in Final Cut Pro. If any one has any experience with this or advice to offer, please pass it along.

    Sincerely;

    Andy Lawless

    None natively. You will not get a clean result if you simply drop your 720/30 into a PAL timeline and export.

    Nattress’ Standards Converter is what you want. This will be slow so allow time to render and follow the instructions EXACTLY. The filter must be applied to all the individual clips, not the finished timeline.

    Even better, format conversion in Compressor using optical flow technology in the frame-control tab.

    Cheers

    Hey Alexander;

    Thanks for the feedback. I’ll give it a shot as well as look into what Walter suggests.

    Hey Alexander;

    I’ve tried several tests using compressor, and found that going with an Uncompressed 8-Bit conversion looks crisp and clean, but have had no luck getting the geometry to accept the 16:9 look of the source footage. Any suggestions?

    Thanks;

    Andy
