NTSC to PAL
Hello,
i need to convert a 23,976 HD feature to 25 SD PAL. I am having problems with the frame rate.(I guess I am not the first…)
First i used frame blending to keep the original length. This looks pretty ok but there are a lot of softer frames in there.
Then i used motion estimation in compressor, which rendered very long, looked very good for predictable shots, but is horrible with faster moving scenes.
Then I read on this forum to just change the frame rate interpretation, this would make the movie shorter, but I would not have the blended frames, i would have to pitch the audio though. Can you use this method for feature film?
Which of these methods are used in the professional film world? Or is there another method?

Compressor works best, but like you said, every problematic shot needs to be individually tweaked. When I’m in a rush, I use the Nattress Standards Conversion Plug In.

I don’t do 24p to 25p though – that’s a job best done in Cinema Tools with the “conform” option to speed it up 4%. Compressor “should” be able to do it good, if you can ever figure out the right settings 🙂 Which I can never seem to do….

If never done that (hope I never need) , but I would give a try in Compressor with “Frame conversion: FAST (nearest frame)”
It may be more acceptable repeating a frame every second than the softness you get with any other setting (and much faster). In PAL land we see that everyday and look quite natural for us.
