Mpeg Streamclip will do this fast. But it will look like crap.

I really need it to look right… 😉
Crappy projects will deserve crappy results, but this one is not.

You asked what would do it fast.

Compressor is one of your best bets for quality but it will take time. You need to turn the Frame Controls on and turn on Motion Compensation. You then need to play with the settings until you get the results you want.

Ignore the strange 1024 x 576 frame size. Those are the dimensions Quicktime will display a 16 x 9 PAL file at using square pixels. The dimensions for PAL are still 720 x 576 within FCP and Compressor, but you need to set for anamorphic.

If your NTSC final product was not 16 x 9 anamorphic (either 4:3 center cut or letterboxed), go back to your original HD footage and re-export and work with that instead.
