NTSC DVD authoring problems
Hi, I regularly author PAL DVDs with DVDA and have wonderful results. Now I need to do an NTSC DVD – using a PAL 25fps source. So using Canopus Procoder, I create an NTSC MPEG-2 elementary stream of the video element at 29.97fps. I have created an NTSC DVDA project and import the NTSC fine. In Preview everything looks great. I optimize and make the DVD and burn it to disk. The DVD plays perfectly on my computer. Wow, Procoder does an amazing job, interpolating the additional 5fps for NTSC. Totally smooth pans and zooms. I’m very happy, until….. I try and play the DVD in a multi-region set-top box. The menu is there fine, but when I play the show, I only hear the AC3 audio element. The video stays stuck on the menu. The player does not want to display the MPEG-2 video element – yet the broadcast multi-standard monitor confirms it’s an NTSC source and the NTSC menu looks great too. So why not the actual show itself? Any other NTSC DVD plays fine in the same config. But not this file converted from PAL to NTSC by Procoder. And why does it only work on my computer? Any ideas are most welcome.

I don’t know Procoder, but I have successfully done this simply by saving the PAL DVDA project as “XXX NTSC version”, changing the Project Settings to NTSC and letting DVDA do the work.
